A Newport Proposal at The Chanler: Alex & Selina's Cliff Walk Surprise
When Alex reached out to me, I could tell from our very first conversation that he already had the whole plan mapped out in his head — and it was fabulous. He wanted to make it ultra special for his bride-to-be, Selina, and he'd clearly been thinking through every detail long before he ever picked up the phone to call me.
The Plan
The two of them would stay at [The Chanler](https://www.thechanler.com/) in Newport, one of my favorite backdrops in this small state of ours. As the sun started dropping toward the water, Alex would take Selina for a stroll along the Cliff Walk — that stretch where the ocean opens up on one side and the old Newport mansions rise up on the other. From there, he'd guide her back toward the hotel grounds, right to the fountain, where he'd finally ask the question.
And unbeknownst to Selina, it wasn't going to end there. Both of their families were already on location, quietly waiting to step out and celebrate the second she said yes.
My Job That Day
My part was simple on paper: meet both families at the hotel ahead of time, walk everyone through how the whole thing would come together, and then wait for Alex to bring Selina back from their walk.
The tricky part was making sure none of us — me, the families, anyone — accidentally crossed paths with the two of them before the moment happened. So I suggested Alex share his location with me while they walked, so we could all track exactly where they were and stay far enough out of sight. I'll be honest, watching a little dot move along the Cliff Walk on my phone made me feel a little like a stalker. But it worked — nobody spoiled a thing.
The Moment
Golden hour on the Cliff Walk has a way of making everything feel a little more cinematic, and Alex couldn't have timed it better. By the time they made their way back to the fountain, the light was doing exactly what we all hoped it would do.
He got down on one knee. She said yes. And right on cue, both of their families came around the corner to hug them, cry with them, and celebrate the two of them together. So many amazing moments captured, nothing I enjoy more than to keep those feelings alive for them.
See for yourself — I think he nailed it.
