Rain Couldn't Stop This Wedding: Katie & Sam at Blithewold Mansion
May 24, 2026 — Bristol, RI
Some couples get the postcard-perfect, sunny wedding day. Katie and Sam got something better: a day that tested them, and they passed with flying colors (rain and all).
When the forecast for their May 24th wedding at the stunning Blithewold Manor showed rain — and not just a passing shower, but rain for the entire day — most people would've panicked. Not Katie and Sam. They leaned in, embraced it, and ended up with a wedding day so full of joy and love that the weather barely mattered.
A Dream Worth Standing in the Rain For
Katie always pictured her ceremony outdoors, surrounded by Blithewold's gorgeous gardens and that unmistakable New England charm. So when the rain didn't let up, the question wasn't *if* they'd make it happen outside — it was *how*. The answer: umbrellas, determination, and a whole crew of guests who weren't about to let a little water get in the way of Katie's dream. And it worked. The ceremony went on outside, exactly as she'd imagined it, rain and all.
Real Troopers, Through and Through
It takes a special kind of couple to handle a full day of rain with this much grace. Katie and Sam didn't just tolerate the weather — they made it part of the story. There was no stress, no meltdown, just two people (and their incredibly good-spirited wedding party) rolling with it and having the time of their lives anyway.
A Dress and a Suit to Remember
Katie's dress, from **Bridal Garden**, was one of a kind — truly stunning, and so perfectly *her*. Even with raindrops in the mix, it photographed beautifully, almost like it was made for this exact kind of day. Her hair and makeup, done by Donna Souza of Makeup Artistry, held up flawlessly through every umbrella dash, which honestly might be the most impressive feat of the day. Sam, meanwhile, looked every bit as dapper in his suit, having an absolute blast with his guys before the ceremony. Whatever nerves come with wedding-day jitters, you'd never know it from the smiles on that crew.
The First Look That Said It All
The first look between Katie and her dad is one of those moments that doesn't need words — the photos say everything. And the bridesmaids' reactions right after? Pure, unfiltered joy and emotion. The first look from Katie and Sam, priceless. Sam couldn't have been more stunned and in awe of his gorgeous bride. These are the shots that remind you why first looks are always worth it.
Turning Blithewold Into Something New
As a photographer, days like this push you to get creative — and that's exactly what we did. We moved between Blithewold's elegant interiors and the rain-soaked grounds outside, capturing portraits that showed off this incredible venue in a way I haven't quite seen before - honestly... it never rained all day - ever! This is the kind of situation where the creative brain runs in overdrive and thinking outside the box is required at all times. If you are lucky like me and have the most perfect couple for this kind of challenge, it becomes easy. What do they say: Team work makes the dream work?! 110%!
And Then it was Time to Dance, and They Danced
By the time the reception rolled around, the rain was nothing but background noise. Between the incredible spread from Blackstone Caterers, the show stopping treats from Wooden Pin Bakery, and a dance floor kept alive all night by DJ Mattie who left no one sitting in their seats, there was no slowing this crowd down. Katie, Sam, and every single guest danced like there was no tomorrow
— full energy, full hearts, completely living in the moment.
The Takeaway
Weather doesn't make a wedding. People do.
Katie and Sam proved that the most memorable days aren't about perfect conditions — they're about showing up for each other no matter what's falling from the sky. Congratulations to this incredible couple. Thank you for letting me capture a day I won't forget anytime soon.
