Lots of fun and magical light
The first engagement session of the year in the books! I was so ready for getting out there and finally being able to do what I love so much - capturing my couples love!
Like most couples Lily and Jon felt a bit awkward having a camera pointed at them at all times - I don't blame them, I don't like it either.
The good thing about the digital cameras is though, we get results in real time and can use it to our advantage and show our clients what they looks like right on the spot. This is usually the turning point when they stop to care and it eases the worries - even better - most of them are quite surprised how good they look!
We started at Bowen's Wharf, capturing the Newport charme right in the center of town. Just to give you an idea... it March! How lucky are we with the weather?! High 50's and magical light, it was meant to be.
Next stop, Ledge Road, one of my absolute favorite spots in Newport on the water. Majestic rocks along the coast line, plenty of space to walk on and even when it gets a bit busier in the summer, still more than enough space to make it look they are the only ones.
Lily's family has been a member at Hazard Beach for generations and this was one of her must-do locations in Newport. Integrating meaningful locations that are a part of my couples story is so important to me. It takes the photos to a different level for them, preserving memories and making new ones.
Everything in photography is about light. Once you see it, you can't unsee it and it becomes a daily exercise - everyday, everywhere!
While driving, noticing a bird in the tree that has beautiful backlight. Taking my dog for a walk in the woods, noticing the side light falling through the window while talking to my kids and how it shapes their faces and how it changes in a matter of minutes when the light is shifting. Everytime this happens, I am framing a composition in my head of what the photo would like, if I would have my camera right now.
Call me weird, that's okay.. it feels like kind a disease - but a good one!
So when the sun set that night and it turned Hazard Beach into a glooming yellow sea of light, it was simply magical and we tried to get as many compositions out of it as possible. See for yourself!
Enjoy!
