“We’re so awkward in front of the camera.”

KATIE & SAM - JAMESTOWN, RHODE ISLAND

Honestly? I hear this all. the. time. Most couples tell me they feel super self-conscious or hate the idea of posing — and I totally get it. Katie and Sam felt the same way when they booked me for their wedding and decided to do an engagement shoot.

But here's the thing — that shoot wasn’t just about getting pretty pics for their Save the Dates. It was a chill way to get comfy with the camera, feel out my vibe, and actually have fun with it. No stiff poses. No awkward prom photo energy. Just real moments.

Once I knew what kind of energy they were going for, we chose Jamestown — because cliffs + coastline + crazy pretty views? Yes, please. It’s all about matching the spot with your story.

We also chatted wardrobe — what feels good, flatters you, and fits your vibe without being “too much.” Coordinated but still you.

Then…the day comes. And boom — FOG. Everywhere.

We had planned the date, picked the outfits, scouted the location… and now it looked like a moody indie film. Was it a letdown? At first, yeah. But should we have canceled? Nope.

Here’s my take: If you’re set on golden-hour glow, rescheduling might make sense. But if you’re down to go with the flow? Magic still happens. Some of my favorite sessions have been in weird weather — and trust me, that fog turned out to be a total vibe. If we don't have the available light we need, we simply make it.

As a seasoned pro (yes, I’ve shot in hurricanes), I promise: no wedding day is ever 100% perfect. But it doesn’t have to be. The real magic? It's in rolling with whatever the day throws at you. And having a photographer who knows how to turn it into gold.

Just look at Katie and Sam — laughing nonstop, embracing the fog, having the best time.

Their wedding at Blithewold Mansion is going to be such a blast — I already know it’s going to be full of love, laughter, and lots more giggles.

We captured the fun action during the "infamous champagne shot", definitely a client favorite. If you interested, let me know and we put it on the list of "favorites shots to get".
